Mozambique’s qualityinfrastructure sector has reached a significant 🌟 milestone with the approval of Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade-IP (INNOQ, IP)’s Strategic Plan for the period 2024-2028. The approval was confirmed during the VIII Extended Consultative Council Meeting held from July 24-25, 2024, which focused on the theme: “Quality Infrastructure at the Service of Companies’ Sustainability and Competitiveness.”
The strategic plan is crucial as it aligns with the growing expectations from both public and private sectors, as well as consumers, regarding the quality of products and services. This plan aims to enhance Mozambique’s infrastructure to meet conformity assessment, metrology, and standardization needs, which are vital for satisfying domestic market demands and boosting export opportunities.
INNOQ, the body responsible for implementing Mozambique’s Quality Policy, plays a pivotal role in addressing social and economic concerns. The organization’s mandate includes ensuring health, environmental protection, safety, consumer rights, and fair commercial practices, all while enhancing organizational competitiveness and productivity. The newly approved strategic plan will steer INNOQ IP’s activities over the next five years, setting a clear path for its goals and objectives.
Significantly, the Promove Comércio project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO, played an essential role in the development of INNOQ IP’s strategic plan. This initiative supported the formulation of the plan by providing technical guidance and facilitating crucial meetings, both in-person and virtual, to ensure the strategic plan reflects INNOQ IP’s aspirations and available resources.
Haider Pestamgy, National Expert in Quality Infrastructure & Certification at UNIDO, highlighted the importance of this development: “A robust, strong, and service-oriented INNOQ IP is vital for the business environment, enabling the Mozambican private sector to leverage market opportunities both regionally and internationally. The project underscores the need for INNOQ IP to be a demand-driven provider of quality infrastructure services to both the private and public sectors.”
The approval of INNOQ IP’s Strategic Plan marks a significant advancement in Mozambique’s efforts to enhance its quality infrastructure. This strategic vision not only aims to meet current market needs but also positions Mozambique to better compete in the global marketplace. With the support of projects like Promove Comércio, INNOQ IP is well-equipped to drive progress and deliver impactful results in the coming years.
